The two-minute ramble project is means of practicing a site build, in this case a blog site, using layout techniques and systems I am currently learning. This layout also lends itself to reviews and although I don't intend to write any myself, building the layout for this type of page would be good experience. Review sites in general have some unique requirements, specifically an area to summarise the review and provide key points along with an allocated rating.
This score could be presented as numbered value or key statement, and for this case study I wanted to use the numbered score. I also wanted to include an area for both the positives and negatives of whatever is being reviewed, and I needed to include an author or reviewer associated to the article.
Some concessions where made around the layout.
So I went ahead and updated my existing CMS (content management system) to include these fields and went back into my initial page layout design to include these new elements. I had to build a new database of writers to reference to the article and created a unique persona for this purpose. Some concessions where made around the layout, as usually reviews feature images in the body to compliment something specific the author may have referred too, but as my original blog layout features media at the bottom of each article, I kept this layout intact. Perhaps in a future update I may update this to include media throughout the article.
- Layout is uniform with page design.
- Content is adaptive, showing or hiding when relevant.
- I made this.
- Would like to include media in article body that is linked to the lightbox.
