Back in March of 2023, I launched the site two-minute ramble with the intent of learning a new tool (in this case Webflow) and create a platform from scratch - well, as close to that as possible with limited coding knowledge. Using no templates and starting from a blank canvas, I wanted to create a space to post content on a site I made, something I have full control of as I defined every class and control every aspect of how elements interact.
Firstly, I have a platform - yay
Now, a year and a bit later, I wanted to review progress and see what goals I managed to meet as well as put some thoughts down on where I would like the project to go. Firstly, I have a platform - yay - it does what I hoped it would in terms of how I manage content, how that content is displayed, and how it all links together. Granted I haven't posted nearly as much as I would have liked to, the stuff that has been posted all looks pretty neat together when cycling through post pages.
I also put together a product listing of some second-hand items I was looking to sell, and implemented that fairly quickly, and with 'franchise pages' I managed to list these products with any relevant content. This met my goal of creating systems to expand on the platform quickly and keeping content linked in some way. Although while I figure out some logistics behind retailing those items, I have removed the shop pages from the navigation.
So what's next for two-minute ramble? Well, more content I guess. I want to try bring on any friends or family who want to write for the platform to become contributors, and post about the things they find interesting. It would be nice to have some more voices on the site. Time permitting, I would also like to create a regular posting schedule for myself, just to keep momentum on content. I was also made a move to a new continent, so am thinking it would be nice to detail the adventure in a new land - and highlight some of the cool nerdy things I find.
I would also like to actually put some effort into driving traffic here, it was never a goal when building the platform - more a passion project to learn something new, but having some eyes on the posts wouldn't be a horrible thing. Also a comments section would be great, some way for visitors to interact, so I think that's something I'll scope soon.
For now, it's nice to know that the platform is here, and I can always learn more with it.
