A while back LEGO created and initiative called LEGO IDEAS (originally LEGO CUUSOO) which focused on allowing community member builds to get submitted for approval and, if supported by a large number of users on the site, be put into production as a retail product. As such we’ve seen some great releases such as the Back to the Future Time Machine, an amazing (no bias whatsoever) TRON Legacy set and the Ghostbusters Ecto-1.
One such recent-ish submission is the Hearthean's Ship from Outer Wilds, one of my favourite video games, which was designed by community member SuperSirLink. This nifty little ship is the player’s means of exploring the solar system, and a fundamental part of the gameplay experience.
As of writing it looks like the project has achieved community support, which means the build has been moved to review phase where LEGO designers, product managers and others will examine the idea. If after a few months this is successful we may see the idea come to life as an actual release, which would be amazing. You can check out the submission on the LEGO IDEAS page here.
